Bone Broth ~ “Traditionally prepared bone broth contains calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sulfur, sodium, potassium, chondroitin sulfate, keratin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, collagen (gelatin), elastin, osteocytes and chondrocytes. Each of these lend a healing property for different ailments, from digestive disorders to general fatigue. Over 75 conditions are benefited from bone broth.” from Wendy of healthylivinghowto.com
I’ve made bone broth a few times but my latest batch has been going strong as it was done by Chef Jeffrey Seimens which we made following the Sally Fallon way. Anyways, we took 25 lbs of grass-fed and the meatier bones and and knuckles and made a bucket head of bone broth.
These bone broths are major players in part of our detox challenges and journey towards better health. You can use lamb, duck, turkey and chicken broth too (Chicken broth was certainly the popular one with my grandparents and parents when we got sick), but for some variety and it’s nutrient dense properties of bone marrow as well, beef broth may be the king of bone broths.
Using the bones and meat of 100% grass-fed animals is pretty important. I still have a few bags in the freezer (about 20-30lbs worth if your interested – come talk to tbear).
Other than that check Pasture to Plate on Commercial Drive or hit the Home Range Organics on Main and Broadway beside Our Town Café and kitty corner to the Kingsway mall – Jackie (to your right) serves it like a cup of tea to me when I pop in to buy eggs and grassfed butter. Check out their Vancouver Sun Article – BONE BUZZ
This broth/gelatin when chilled helps to re-mineralize bones and teeth, nourish your skin, hair, nails and joints, repair your gut, and really help your immune system and so much more!! Just take a read of both articles, which will get you well on your way to tracking down some bones.

I want to share a couple ideas that Jackie opened my eyes to for using your bone broth in different creative ways. I tried them for my brunch today.
Sauteed onions in 2-3 tbls of bone broth until the onions are translucent then mix them in with your eggs and spinach and prepare your omelette for breakfast or just put your onions or mushrooms on your grass-fed bbq’d rib-eye.
Or go simple….put it in a cup and have it as a beverage.
