Week One, Day One

Week One, Day One

I want to send out a big thank you to everyone who came to our inaugural Project Endurance ‘Running as a Skill’ Workshop. I’m very happy with everyone’s progress so far, and I’m looking forward to where you’ll all be in ten weeks time.

We (Sheppy, Dan, and I) learn a lot every time we teach this stuff, so keep your suggestions coming.

Please post thoughts and workout times to the comments section.

I thought it went well. My hammies are going to be sore tomorrow from the little wake-up.

Trying to keep the good “pull“ form I found tricky to maintain, as it made me shorten my strides quite a bit, and that translated to many quicker steps as I ran. It also made me run a bit more upright than I am used to. I think, though, this will eventually translate into better mobility on the sports pitch, as I should be able to change directions quicker with shorter, more powerful strides. But when I was exhausted, any good form went to hell and I defaulted back to the large lumbering strides LOL. My 2-mile time also sucks, especially for a guy who has been hitting Xfit hard the last few months. Very humbling.

Thank you Andy, Dan and Shep. I’m sorry I had to rush out at the end. Please let me know if I missed anything. Was there “homework” prescribed that I should be aware of?

    Thank you again.

    My hams are sore….

Thanks for all the good info, it just makes sense – now to be able to do it! The video is great. My Achilles is killing but I’m going to be diligent thanks for all the good massaging and stretching techniques too I was a bit spoiled at the end

I too found that during the run I had to really think about what I was doing and when I got tired I would slip back to pounding my heel.

I’m off to buy Dixie cups and a golf ball have a good Sunday!

Form went out the window as I got tired, but will be working on that this week. Will try a distance run at a slower pace with the new method and see if I can make it stick.

    Great first session.
Lean, pull, pull, pull, pull, kiss the heal..repeating these key words really helped me try and focus on technique. Did the 8x 200m today down at Jericho. Lots to work on and practice. Now I can’t stop watching how others run..

:))) only 3.2 km and my calves were soooo sore next day in spite of all the massages and stretching – feeling normal again. I’m very excited to be part of this program, thanks for the attention to details and encouragement ;)-G

I’ve been pose running for a while now so don’t have huge issues with tightness in my legs although my hammies were quite tight. Maybe it was the resistance exercises we were doing in the warm-up that caused that. I find it tough keeping good form going downhill and when I want to increase speed and I feel I can’t move my feet any faster (want to lengthen stride out but form suffers).
