Some of you may know that there is a Madlab School of Fitness Ultimate Frisbee Team. TEAM RX’D
This team came together through idle chatter at the school. The team, compiled of a bunch of newbies to the sport and a bunch of veterans who have played for years and also represented at Worlds.
The start of the season was a real learning curve but once we had a few games completed and the rules/strategy became clearer the team really started to gel.
We finished the first part of the League 3rd in our division which is pretty amazing.
So know we are in the last two months of the season and really need some supporters to come out and cheer us on! Maybe it will inspire you to join the fall league.
We Play Today THURSDAY July 10th. 6.30pm at Kingscrest Park (Basically Knight and 25th) – Come Watch and have a cold beer
Some Season Highlights:
Kimmy:
Regardless, this season has been great so far. I would say the highlight for me has been getting to know everyone….on and off the field. After almost 5 years at Madlab I feel I am just getting to know people now. : )
Bess:
What ultimate has done for me: 1) got me out of my comfort zone, and helped me to get to know some familiar gym faces a little better. 2) Forces me to run. And run. And run some more.
Dash:
Ultimate as allowed me to get back into team sport. I played team sport all my life before moving out to Canada and now playing ultimate I remember why I love it so much. We work hard and laugh a lot!!!
Season Quotes:
“This self referring business is bullshit.” ~Poker
“Scotty, there are using the rules against me!” said Lars in his only appearance
“LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARS!!!!”
“Andy, you have the sweat of Africa on your shirt”
“These people have never played before…..wow”
So my question to you all is:
What other sports do you play? Want to play? Need others to join?
And, how has CFV helped you in these sports. Comment Below

Coaching points:
Try to do two sets on the deadlifts, then breathing through the shoulder to overhead is key. Stay calm and again, breathe on the rope. Make sure your grip is recovered before you jump on the rope.
CFV definitely boosted my hockey game. I mean, at first I just got more penalties--cuz girls literally bounced off of me. (full disclosure, I might have been a bit of a goon)
But, since my team moved me to defence, that strength and speed has made a huge difference. (and, now I get fewer penalties...)
;)
...for the hockey fans out there.... Patty calls me Rod Langway
I play soccer, baseball and I drive race cars from time to time. Crossfit has given me astronomical gains in stamina, strength, acceleration and top end speed. It feels great running past players who are younger ;). Crossfit was also a gateway into better stretching & mobility and with that brought an awareness to my body, cause and effect of tightening and how to relax/loosen muscles to facilitate better range of movement and to expedite recovery.
I can't go back.
My physiotherapist treats a LOT of top level ultimate players. He says the most common injury he sees is torn hamstrings. Because players don't strengthen their butts enough.
Crossfit has helped me to strengthen my butt. (& a beautiful butt it is)
