What’s different about this one?  Why should you bother to brave the rain and the roads to come back to MadLab on Friday night?  I’ll tell you…  Talent.

Ask anyone who was at the EVGT party last year, it was amazing!  Singing, dancing, comedy, and clothing removal all in one place.

This year…  well, I’ll give you a few hints:

Ethnic Dancing – A few of our Comp Team members will be flaunting their moves on the floor.  This time without the grunting and sweating and barbells.  I think you’ll be surprised.

Classical Music – Again, a few faces you may have heard can perform classically will pull together for a truly festive piece. (Morning crew… you’ll finally see what it is I do in my ‘other’ job.)

Comedy – I’ll leave this one on the DL…. 😉

Burlesque – Oh yeah, I said it! We may not get to see the Bronto do the Full Monty… but we will get an entirely different and beautiful dance from one of Sheppy’s talented clients.

No naming names now… 😉

  7. As I see it, the issue with Cube's name suggestion is that it grants me the discretion of creating my own NNCN2, thus inadvertently violating the rule against self-naming. Then again, by raising this issue, I could be offending the rule against the self-name-veto. So I digress.

  8. Patty, as your self-appointed Counsel (sorry Kate and Luca) and MadLab Community Ombudsman, I highly advise not telling this story. Use of that word involves no small amount of racism, hatred and bigotry, all mixed up into smoking cesspot of badness.

  9. Although I do like Cube's suggestion of NerdBird I don't believe it captures Kate's ability to completely confuse and bewilder with (what is apparently) the English language. In the tradition of the Canadian legal system I think she should be deemed "My Lady" or "Your Ladyship" and yes I realize that I just promoted her to the position of judge.

  13. And Audrey, unilateral promises of confidentiality aren't binding unless you received some consideration in return for it. If you took the video before making the promise (as I assume you did), the person can't claim you got the video in return for the promise. So unless you got paid off, you're in the clear. (In other words, no money no problems.)

  14. I fondly remember Kermit's December 2009 month of programming. As I recall, it involved one of the nastiest workouts of all time, nick-named "Groundhog Day" by all who did it: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 of some silly set of three exercises followed by a roughly 150 meter run (up the side street and down the alley). One for the books.

    I also remember the nicknames, and, vaguely, the website comments around that time. As I recall, the NNC's policy and the rationale behind it were never discussed in those comments (AKA CFV/Madlab's version of Hansard). Thus, Clyde's discussion of the purpose post-dates the adoption of the policy and cannot be used in future interpretation of NNC Code 13:V(g). Y'all should have included a preamble.

The NNC's Nickname of the Nickname (or NNCN2 for short) policy dates back to December 2009, when Kermit took it upon herself to self-designate several nick-nicknames during her month of programming, including but not limited to: Kermitron; Kermudgeon; Sir Kermsalot; The Kerminator; Kermes; and Kermi-Nation. It was quickly getting out of hand, so the NNC had to step in with an official policy that nick-nicknames are fully legit and therefore eligible for formalization under NNC Code 13:V(g) Formal Adoption of Nicknames.

    How's that for overzealous, Kate?

Moreover, at what point does the nickname of the nickname move from secondary nickname to primary nickname? And can the secondary/nickname of the nickname still exist as a primary nickname once its root nickname is bumped (as it would be if no secondary nicknames were allowed)?

    A problematic policy, indeed. The NNC really needs to reconsider its position on this.

    RatCatcher/Dashie;

    TwinkleToes/Slingblade

    D-Kline/Dimples; and

    Rambo/Tugg Speedman.
