Quick History of CrossFit Vancouver:

CrossFit Vancouver is Canada’s first CrossFit affiliate and the fifth affiliate in the world.

IMG_1671After learning first-hand from the Founder of CrossFit Greg Glassman, Craig Patterson left his career as a mechanical engineer to begin a new one in the fitness industry.

Patterson became affiliated in 2004. As the story goes for many CrossFit affiliates, noise complaints and size constraints led him to open a bigger space down the road. But the next space only brought more of the same problems, so Patterson uprooted again to a new space.

Trial and error and learning from early mistakes eventually led Patterson to figure out some key concepts about what works and what doesn’t work in the fitness industry.

Four of the necessary keys Patterson learned that need to be in place for a school of fitness are as follows:

  • World-Class Facility where students train  (ample square footage, equipment etc…)
  • Fundamentals Program (12-20 personal training sessions to screen strengths and weaknesses, to teach the movements properly, and to evaluate and eventually graduate students based on our physical Benchmarks).
  • Develop coaches into fitness professionals through a system that teaches them the practical, technical, academic, and financial/business side of running a fitness facility
  • Follow a sustainable and efficient business model

Today, CrossFit Vancouver is part of our provincially registered vocational school of fitness – registered with the PCTIA. We continue to use the CrossFit method to get people fit, and together with Madlab, we are working to professionalize the fitness industry through raising fitness professionals and getting students more fit than they ever imagined. Currently, we have five instructor coaches and 25 apprentice coaches on our team.

Joining CrossFit Vancouver means you will become more fit than you have ever been, and with the help of your personal coach and the greater community, we’ll help you stay on a path the a happy, healthy, fulfilling life.
