Habit & Willpower
Habit: a settled or regular tendency or practice
Everyone has a had a bad habit at some point in their life they want to rid themselves of. Whether it’s smoking, drinking, drugs or any other thing you “need” to get you through the day. Habits can also be a good thing, healthy eating, being on time and regular exercise are all good habits. How does one eliminate a bad and create a new one?
It depends.
How often are you trying to enforce this habit/eliminate one?
What are the benefits/set backs of this new or old habit?
My advice is simple, just don’t do the bad stuff. I know that seems easy but when you feel the urge to perform that bad habit, stop and ask yourself… is it worth the pleasure or the set back, and think about all the good tendencies you are creating in your life these days. Even if it is, tell yourself its not. You can convince yourself of anything if you try hard enough. Will power is key in the ability to create and eliminate habits.
Willpower: the ability to control oneself and determine one’s actions
Take control folks, its your life and no one else’s.

Sigh…I managed to hold off on dipping into the box of Halloween candy in the cupboard until 8:30pm!!! All day I walked by and said-oh I want a couple (never just one-c’mon:)!) but I kept saying-noooo, I don’t need it!
Pinkys lesson #1 don’t buy Halloween candy more than a day before Halloween. You’ll just end up buying more cuz you’ve eaten half the box…

Every time I concentrate on something, I bite my nails. Not necessarily a good or bad habit, but pretty nasty I’ve been doing it since I was a toddler. Quit once in high school for six months.

Glassman gave me this one one time that I thought was the essential essence of success in life:
“The only way to achieve the big goal is to give up the little pleasures in the moment.”
I gave up all sweets/gluten etc and managed my alcohol successfully for 4-5 years.
My weight went from 235 to 188 in 6 months and stayed between 195 and 205 for years.
My habits changed in 2009 during a 2 year battle with the city that brought out a scotch sipping/ bread munching crutch to deal with the constant stress of bankruptcy that is nearly over (hate to jinx myself here…but fuck it)
After 9 years of busting my ass for the big goal, I am finally moving out my shitty east van basement into a 2,500 sqft house.
Greg was right.
Now to deal with the other habits
