1 Minute of All-Out Exercise May Have Benefits of 45 Minutes of Moderate Exertion

This is a very interesting & recent article that you all should read through.  Thanks to Darren D. who just graduated today for sending it my way.

So, is this really all we need to do?  If your in a time crunch – for sure and hate exercise.  It shows once again intensity does matter!  But only when your mechanics are consistently sound. We always need to think about the injury potential of very short, very high intensity intervals as well. For example: sprinting 50m every 2 min down the alley without warming-up for 30 minutes would be a very bad thing for TBear.

Again, I like these maximal effort workouts.  They really do cause a disturbance in the body, and that disturbance creates adaptation. Nothing new to us, but with all that said, the hour long bike rides are exercise which has a great effect on well-being so balance the two.  Don’t get caught up purely with the measurable physiological benefits of only HIIT.

“What is life, really, but the hours we experience, the pleasure and peace we derive from enjoying the amazing ability of a well-functioning body and brain as we move through our days with gratitude and mindfulness..”

So here’s how the article starts off from the NYTimes, April 27th, 2016….

For many of us, the most pressing question about exercise is: How little can I get away with? The answer, according to a sophisticated new study of interval training, may be very, very little. In this new experiment, in fact, 60 seconds of strenuous exertion proved to be as successful at improving health and fitness as three-quarters of an hour of moderate exercise.

Let me repeat that finding: One minute of arduous exercise was comparable in its physiological effects to 45 minutes of gentler sweating.”
