Will I learn something new about stretching?
Solo-partial exercises are easy to learn and can be used as daily maintenance. But your posture and flexibility will improve significantly when working with partners in class, one-on-one, benefiting from assisted stretches. We learn to assist each other in turn of greater results. In this Introduction, we will warm up each muscle group properly before stretching; we will work on the hip flexors (the major shaper of your spinal shape, and a frequent cause of back and neck pain), piriformis (a muscle that can cause sciatica), the hamstrings, calves, shoulders and a few simple neck exercises, too.
Is Stretch Therapy like Yoga?
No. The core of Stretch Therapy (ST) is based on the therapeutic effects of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). The PNF Contract-Relax approach ensures that a deeper and longer-lasting stretch is attained, making Stretch Therapy far more effective than simply stretching and holding a position.
How does PNF work?
There are 3 steps to PNF also called Contract -Relax approach:
First the limb is taken into the stretch position
Secondly the muscle being stretched is contracted
Thirdly the muscle is relaxed and re-stretched further into the new stretch position
What should I know before attending the iCocoon Stretch Therapy Intro?
It is recommended to review the principles of stretching safely!
Please read this article before attending the workshop.

Pre-requisite to enter Stretch Therapy classes:
- The iCocoon Stretch Therapy Intro – You can repeat the iCST-Intro any time for as little $30/2hr or
- At least one private Stretch Therapy session with Giselle – by appointment only
Either of the above options are required to be done within one year from your first day in class.
Important details :
- In order to truly warm up your muscles, it is highly recommended to attend the WOD prior to each stretch class. This will save us time to work instead of warm up in class. Have a light snack to stay sharp and drink plenty of water to continuously hydrate your muscles.
- Be sure to dry your body and change to a separate set of dry clothing to retain your body temperature. Muscles are simply more pliable when warmed up.
FAQs
Q. Why is it important to have the pre-requisite done within one year from the first day in class?
A. Basic exercises are taught in the iCST-Intro or during Private ST sessions. Weekly STclasses are designed to gradually progress to advanced partner assisted stretching, multi-joint, stand 3 dimension stretching exercises. This requirement is the standard entree level to STClasses.
Benefits of Massage Therapy for Athletes
Crossfit athletes routinely stretch their physical limits through intense functional movements.
In order to support the members of this community Cocoon Wellness is now bringing Registered Massage Therapist’s services to the CFV School. Registered Massage Therapy can help preventing painful sports injuries and facilitate recovery to unresolved chronic musculoskeletal disorders.
Do you have extended health care coverage through your employer?
If you have an Extended Health Care Plan, you need to look at your policy to determine what amount of coverage you have for massage therapy! If you have extended health care coverage, now you can enjoy out-of-pocket expenses for massage therapy here at the school.
Mobile RMT Fees for CFV:
$100 | 60 min Registered Massage Therapy
$140 | 90 min Registered Massage Therapy
How to book an appointment with a Cocoon Wellness RMT Associate?
Our Registered Massage Therapy Associates do not have set schedules at CFV. They are fully insured, independent RMTs, usually working out of their own professional settings – and now will bring their services to our school by appointments only. ( Treatments are currently available on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays.)
Simply click on this icon and send your appointment request today! Please allow at least a two-three days notice in order to secure the preferred time and day for your service. Provide at least two different days and times to better accommodate your schedule. We will get back to you in 24 hours.
What is your cost of getting Massage Therapy if you have extended Health Care Plan?
The average extended health coverage is around $300-600 per year. You might have a percentage associated with your coverage. Here is one example of how your policy may work:
Your policy may read: ” We will cover 80% of Massage therapy treatments to a maximum of $500.”
Treatment Fee: $100 per 60 min treatments
Amount rebated from Medical expenses: $80
Total out of pocket expense: $20
The above is an example of one possible plan. It is also important to check if you require a Doctor’s referral for access to your plan. Please remember that you may also receive coverage for massage Therapy under ICBC if you are in a motor vehicle accident.
