I read this quote from a beautiful mother who lost her son recently in Nicaragua.  She had it tattooed on her arm.  I’m contempling one with images but struggling with a message I can live with for my entire life.  Her’s said;

“In these bodies we will live
in these bodies we will die
where you invest you love
you invest your life….”

I nick named it my journal – NicaFrickeragua 2013.

Here’s a little PG13 slideshow of some of our exploits….

(unfortunately it took a couple hrs with HD pics) — Sorry it went up late – and some pics got clipped, probably for the betterment of the crew.  Enjoy

Forced Bald

We all have it. What is it?

Wikipedia defines Proprioception as “the sense of the relative position of neighbouring parts of the body and strength of effort being employed in movement”.

Proprioception occurs by tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints using bits of data that are continuously circulating through the central nervous system. Not all the movements go to the brain. Most stay in the spinal column and we can refer to these as our reflexes that are automatic.

Anthony King’s little store in our box Training FX carries the VivoBarefoot shoes that are supposed to get you using and developing your propriocetive ability.

Their idea is that you get most of your proprioceptive information from your feet and legs and thus putting your feet closer to the ground would increase the amount of data for your central nervous system to work with. More data = More complete better conscious and unconscious decisions.

As you can imagine, proprioceptive ability is a huge part of our life and is crucial to successful athletic movement.

This post could go on forever. Sensory Motor Research is the field that investigates these types of things. Go do some reading! OR…

Stacey Fenske – OOPS!!! Stacey Wallace (Congratulations Stacey and Rob!) told me about “The Man Who Lost His Body”. It is a fascinating documentary about a man who lost his proprioceptive ability through a viral attack. Only 12 people in the world have it. It is an investigation of proprioception as well as an amazing story of courage and victory. It covers everything from the length and makeup of neurons that go from your hand to your neck to wiping your ars without knowing where it is.

I’ve embedded Part 1 of 4 here. Please give it a watch. Part 2 and 3 were most interesting to me.

Cheers and have a great weekend!

NO!

Tape on the Barbells: Major Flogging Offence

Everyone please understand that this CANNOT happen!

Tape goes on your hands only.

It does not go on the school’s equipment.

NO TAPE on the BARS, RINGS, PULLUP-BARS, or FLOOR

It takes a lot of time to clean this up and it damages the equipment.  Please be respectful of the equipment and the school–after all, this is your home too.

Thanks for your understanding
