MONDAY: Some people are easy to emulate – Part 1
What got me hooked to CrossFit Vancouver were the people. There’s something beautiful about watching people come together – the young and the old from all walks of life. Through the workouts and the physical pain, to the beers and the laughter, the most unlikely people form strong bonds.
This place is full of characters, characters whose quirks we get to know over the weeks, the months, the years.
Here is one of these characters. First person to post to comments who I am emulating in this video get a kiss from Eunice, maybe a boob lift, if you’re lucky.
AND NOW…It’s the start of the MONTH OF T-BEAR PROGRAMMING (with help from Chesty and Tom).
MONDAY If you’re someone who cherry picks their workouts, stop reading now and just SHOW UP tomorrow!
Workout

Kirk McColl took some time off his military career in Victoria to join us in the fall of 2012. He became part of the morning team, working under Andy Sack for four months before earning his fast-track apprentice diploma.
Looking back at his experience in Vancouver, Kirk said this:
“The amount of pure, caring, and passionate people that surround CFV is
unbelievable. It was an absolute pleasure to show up bright and early
everyday. Your reputation mirrors your product. The wealth of knowledge and coaching techniques the coaches pass on to their apprentices is flawless and mastered. I feel confident now to jump the next hurdle.”

WOD for PTSD today!
OP MATIRU is an event in honour of MCpl Charles Matiru, 1 PPCLI. Charles served with Andy Nutts (video tribute… worth a watch), and actually completed numerous tours of duty. Mcpl Charles MATIRU was a member of 1 PPCLI, Edmonton and was a Vancouver native. Although he never sustained physical injuries from deployment, he struggled in silence with PTSD. Prior to joining the Canadian Forces, Charles was an active youth volunteer. He leaves behind a widow and his unborn child “BABY MATIRU”.On January 15, 2013 Charles Matiru had succumbed to his injuries from PTSD. I spoke with another soldier who served with both Charles & Andy, Shawn Davidson. In his words, “His skills as a soldier and a leader were not only great, but a reflection of his humble attitude and calm demeanor.”So what are we asking you?
Come in on Saturday, THIS SATURDAY, March 2nd. Thank you to the other CF Boxes across Canada are all performing this WOD on Saturday to honour MCpl Matiru and to bring awareness to PTSD: Crossfit BYTOWN, Crossfit Poise, Crossfit Belleville, Crossfit Niagra, Crossfit Fortis, Crossbone, Crossfit Brockville, Crossfit Chateauguay, Rocky Point Crossfit, Crossfit Overdrive, and of course Crossfit Vancouver If you want an interesting conversation on PTSD, ask our very own Tinkerbell. Trust me, you’ll have your eyes opened!
“OP MATIRU”: Partner WOD – “fire team partner,” as some in the military would refer to it. For time: • 50 Front Squat – 135/95(M) – 95/65(W) One partner will do the effort while the other does burpees (max of 10). When the partner who is doing the effort fails on reps, they switch off with each other. There will be no burpees during the row. (Keep extra #45 plates nearby for a quick plate change between the PP and DL) 100% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Matiru’s childs trust fund. Coaches, I leave you to handle the donations… Anyone wanting a memorial Tshirt with the logo above can donate $35, leave your name and shirt size, and we’ll get those in for you. Big CFV Love to you all! ~Squad |
